Fourth batch of al-Waer's evacuees arrived in Jarablus

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The fourth batch of Waer neighborhood's evacuees arrived in to Jarablus, the border town with Turkey, leaving the last rebel stronghold in Homs city, local reporter said Sunday.

The 40 buses carried 1427 people, including 405 women and 600 children, resuming an evacuation expected to be among the largest of its kind under a Russian-backed deal with the regime.

80 people who were in critical health condition were transferred in the Red Crescent ambulances, some of the were admitted to Turkish hospitals.

The evacuation is scheduled to deport about 25000 rebels and their families. 5700 people, including 1200 rebel fighters, left the central city of Homs to the northern provinces of Idlib and Aleppo in the last three weeks, according to Zaman al-Wasl report.

Between 10,000-15,000 rebels and civilians were expected to leave in weekly batches, activists have said.

Although rebels launched their biggest offensive in months last week, they have been on the back foot in Syria since Russia intervened on the side of Bashar al-Assad's regime in the autumn of 2015.

Over the past year, the regime has accelerated its drive to push rebel-held pockets to surrender under evacuation deals similar to the one in force in Homs.
