(Zaman Al Wasl) The Syrian regime and supporters of the Baath Party recently formed a new militia called the ‘Tribal Mobilization’ in Hasaka province.
The move comes in conjunction with the Democratic Union Party promoting the salaries it pays to its military brigades.
Well-informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the regime relied on the Baathist figures to secretly recruited 3077 from all parts of Hasaka province into the Tribal Mobilization militia.
The same sources said the al-Assad regime and the Baath Party met with tribal figures on March 20 to begin forming the Tribal Mobilization militia. The source indicated that the new militia includes government employees.
Sources confirmed that Ahmed Khalil, the deputy commander of the militia, is promoting them among those negatively affected by Democratic Union Party control of their areas in northern and western Hasaka.
The sources pointed out that including the word mobilization in the militia title, indicates the militia’s connection to the al-Jazira and Euphrates Mobilization militia announced previously by Damascus. The sources suggested that Iran is promoting the militia on the basis it is fighting terrorism similar to the Popular Mobilization militias in Iraq.
Also, the Democratic Unionist Party began holding promotional meetings in Hasaka city and its towns which are under the control of its new militia the Military Regiments. The meetings aim at competing with the al-Assad militias and making it known that joining the Democratic Union Party militias will earn enlistees’ salaries exceeding 200 US Dollars. The meetings also aim at intimidating residents by arresting employees and youths for them to serve their reserve service.
“These regiments were forced after they took over large areas of land in northern Syria, which reinforcements to protect them from any attack,” said Haifa Arbo, the governor of al-Jazira in a meeting held to discuss this issue in the city of Tel Tamer.
The Kurdish leadership announced the conditions of enlisting in these military regiments, each of which is formed of 210 members, namely:
-Applicants should be no less than 18 years of age and not exceeding 40.
- Do not suffer from diseases and enjoy good physical health.
- Committed to serving for 23 months.
