(Zaman Al Wasl)- Osama al-Habali, “the Heart of Khaldiya” died in Sednaya prison last Tuesday after 5 years in detention.
Osama was one of the Syrian revolution’s icons, he was known as “The Heart of Khaldiya”, he was injured by shrapnel in his neck after a indiscriminate bombing over Khaldiya neighborhood of Homs city.
In his way back from Lebanon after receiving treatment, he was arrested at the barrier of Dabosiya by the military security. His family knew nothing about him for almost a year, and then they received his death news, as he was executed after facing field trial in Sednaya prison.
His sister Sawsan told Zaman al-Wasl that he was arrested at the barrier of the military security on August 18, 2012 ad was taken to the security branch then to Sednaya prison, and they knew his place after a year and two months.
Al-Habali’s sister confirmed that she was detained in the branches where her brother was detained, and she was interrogated by same officer who interrogated him. She expected that he was imprisoned in special cells underground allocated for those who need bigger punishment and most of them do not get out of them alive.
Sawsan detailed that she had seen him for the last time in her aunt’s house in al-Waer neighborhood, when he attended to take some stuff and his camera, then he told then that he was going to Turkey, although he was ill and travelling was difficult for him.
The sister detailed that she realized later the aim of his trip to Turkey, as he wanted to meet with Hilary Clinton with other activists, and they showed her lots of documents and images condemn the Syrian regime and show crimes it committed in Homs.
After finishing his task in Turkey, he headed to Lebanon to receive treatment, and then he was arrested in his way back to Syria.
“Osama was generous, tender, helpful, kind and have sense of humor, his relation to the revolution was exceptional, he was very brave in expressing his thoughts, when others were afraid of criticize the regime and its people”, the sister said painfully.
She confirmed her opinion in her brother by telling the incident when Asif Shawkat, Bashar al-Assad’s brother-in-law, the regime’s Ministry of Interior Mohammed al-Shaar, and the governor of Homs and many Heads of the security branches, met with delegation from Homs in Safeer hotel to know people’s needs and evacuating wounded from Baba-Amr, at that time, Osama stood and spoke bravely: “is what happening in Baba-Amr acceptable?, is it logic to prevent wounded and ill from leaving the neighborhood?. The barrier at entrance of the neighborhood prevent Red crescent team from entering it and forced them to stand for two hours opposite the wall with hands over heads “.
After the meeting in al-Safeer hotel, a stand-in took place and Osama covered it and broadcasted events using his mobile phone, which was one of the reasons behind targeting him by the regime.
