ISIS, rebels clash near Lebanese border

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Islamic State fighters launched a surprise attack on Saraya Ahl al-Sham and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham near the Lebanese border town of Arsal on Sunday, activists said.

ISIS launched the attack from western Qalamoun on two axes: Jurod Qalyat and the amusement park. Saraya Ahl al-Sham, part of the Syrian resistance, and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham forces have responded to the attacks with fierce resistance.

Preliminary information indicates that the Islamic State forces lost at least three fighters during the attack. The forces used machine guns, RPG rocket launchers and attack bombs during the attack.

On the Lebanese side of the border, the Lebanese Army directed its artillery, situated on the hills of Arsal, towards the wilderness to prevent any breach allowing the conflicting sides from entering the town. A military helicopter, Zaman al-Wasl was unable to verify its identity, began flying over the town surveilling, photographing and identifying the locations of the fighting factions.

With the start of Ramadan, the Islamic State forces launched a fierce attack to gain control of Saraya Ahl al-Sham and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham locations near the borders of the Lebanese border town Arsal.

According to Hussein Abu Ali, the official spokesman of Saraya Ahl al-Sham, the Islamic State forces lost 35 fighters among them a field commander (Yusef Alaya) and the Saraya lost five of its fighters during the clashes.

The fighting continues among the three sides with a continued helicopter surveillance, and the Lebanese Army elements on full alert.

Saraya Ahl al-Sham issued a statement calling on all its members to join the Saraya immediately and called on those wishing to volunteer in its ranks to head to the Saraya’s headquarters on Saturday June 03, 2017. Activists described the Saraya’s move as mobilizing forces for a “bone breaking” battle.
