(Zaman Al Wasl)- A source close to the powerful Jaish al-Islam Islamist group refuted the implications of what was said in a leaked voice recording of Mohamed Alloush, a senior commander and spokesman for Jaish al-Islam.
The voice recording showed Alloush asking for one million US Dollars to join the National Coalition. The source said that infiltrating the Jaish and making such recordings to leak and publicize them is immoral and are aimed at damaging Jaish al-Islam’s and the Coalition reputations.
In a statement to Zaman al-Wasl, a source close to Alloush said, “Jaish al-Islam has since its inception faced a campaign to discredit it and defame its reputation due to the courage and steadfastness its fighters are showing in battle. Other than its political attitude which does not allow for anything contrary to the revolutionary principles to pass.”
He added, “There are suspicious hands, and I would not be surprised if they are connected to some external parties, which engage in hacking social media, and they leaked some messages without context.” The source indicated that the recording might have been part of a discussion or even perhaps just a negotiation, and in some cases related to specific circumstances which were omitted in the leaked material.
The source continued, “What happened is a clear case of defamation, but the picture they wanted to appear due to the recording aimed at harming Jaish al-Islam.”
An audio recording of Alloush, a commander in Jaish al-Islam, spread on social media where Alloush was demanding one million US Dollars per month from Jamal al-Ward, a member of the Coalition, in return for Alloush joining the National Coalition.
The voice recording is a debate between Alloush and an unknown person where the unknown person said he asked al-Ward if the coalition receives support, and that al-Ward replied that the Coalition recently received two and a half million US Dollars from Emiratis and the Europeans will also provide support. In the recording, Alloush responded that he and those with him want a share of one million US Dollars per month from these funds to send a representative of them to the Coalition.
