ISIS launches attack on U.S.-backed forces in Shadadi town

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Islamic State fighters launched surprise attack on Kurdish militia in the southern countryside of Hasaka, local activists said Sunday.

Ahmed al-Ali, Hasaka-based activist, said ISIS suicide bombers had started the attack onthe Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near al-Shadadi town, leaving several troops killed and wounded.

The SDF said they thwarted the attack and killed 14 ISIS fighters, according to statement posted online

Al Shadadi town fell to SDF control months ago after fierce fighting with ISIS but skirmishes are still reported.

The SDF, a group of Kurdish and Arab militias supported by a U.S.-led coalition, began to attack Raqqa a week ago to take it from the jihadists. The SDF, supported by heavy coalition air strikes, have taken territory to the west, east and north of the city.
