Assad forces to storm Hama Central Prison, inmates plea

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime forces have been mobilizing troops to overrun the central prison in Hama as prisoners continue their second revolt within a year against jail conditions and harsh sentences, inmates told Zaman al-Wasl on Saturday.
 
The regime troops keep surrounding the prison, located 210 km (130 miles) from Damascus, according to voice recording by inmates who complain of mistreatment and demand basic rights, including fair trial.

Activists warned that 300 detainees may be executed in the imminent attack to end the repllion insde Hama prison.

International rights groups say thousands of detainees are held in Syrian government prisons without charge and many of them are subjected to torture, a claim denied by the authorities.

The Syrian conflict began in 2011 with popular protests against Bashar al-Assad and spiraled into civil war claimed lives of more than half million people after a crackdown by security forces.
