(Zaman Al Wasl)- Sources from inside Homs city reported that an explosion, which was heard in Homs city and its countryside shortly after midnight, was caused by the regime or one of its militias’ arms depots exploding after it was targeted with missiles or bombed during an air strike. It is suggested that Israel may have perpetrated the attack on this arms depot.
Speaking to Zaman al-Wasl, the sources confirmed that the al-Hassan bin Haitham camp, formerly a university training camp, or one of the regime military formations close to the camp were targeted. Al-Hassan bin Haitham camp is located ten kilometers south-east of Homs city.
A resident of Tariq al-Sham neighborhood in Homs, who declined to be named, said the site targeted was targeted about two years ago by the Israeli air force. He specified that the targeted location is the area between the Air Defense College in Maskana village and the al-Awras area.
A military expert in the Syrian resistance likened the explosion to a mild earthquake that was felt even 40 kilometers away from the targeted location. The explosion was so strong that all the residents of villages, towns, and cities in northern Homs felt it.
According to the military expert, three small explosions followed the first explosion.
“A squadron of SU-35 aircraft attacked a terrorist camp in Homs’ northern countryside,” the regime said in its version of events. “The aircraft used missiles and CAP bombs which have great destructive ability underground and above ground. The bombs causing tremors in Homs and its countryside and the attack led to the killing of 1,200 terrorists.” Another regime version of the events was that Russian missiles targeted sites to organize the Islamic State locations in al-Salmiyeh’s eastern countryside.
Residents in the northern Homs countryside categorically denied the regime media’s version of events and asserted that no military operations were conducted in the besieged countryside. They confirmed that they felt the explosion the same of Homs city’s residents.
Residents in Homs’ eastern countryside living close to the al-Salamyeh’s eastern countryside, in Aqrabat said they did not feel the explosion at all. As such, the explosion happened in one of the regime’s military locations close to Homs city.
