U.S.-led airstrikes kill 12 family members in Hasaka: activists

  (Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 12 people from the same family were killed when U.S.-led warplanes struck a border village with Iraq in Hasaka province, activists said Wednesday.

The strikes hit Tel al-Shayer area in the southern countryside of Hasaka amid claims that the Washington strikes were in support of Iraqi militias who edged into the Islamic State strongholds at border.

The death toll from the Coalition strikes reach a total of 500 people in the last 6 weeks , according to local monitoring groups. Most victims were family members.

Isis on Tuesday launched attack on the Iran-backed Shiite militia as new wave of displaced people crossed into the Kurdish-led areas, local activist said.

The fierce clashes near Tel Sufouk border crossing between ISIS and the Popular Mobilization militants left dozens killed and wounded from both side, Malaz Yousef, Hasaka-based activist said.

Three civilians were killed in the artillery shelling of the Iraqi militiamen on villages of Thiba and al Thwaiba east of Hasaka province.

Activist Ahmed al-Ali said 5 more people were also killed in explosion of roadside mine near al Shaddadi town.

Syria's conflict evolved from a bloody crackdown on protests in 2011 into to a devastating war that has drawn in world powers, including Russia and a US-led international coalition.
