Opposition to provide new framework for Geneva talks: sources

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Key opposition figures are working on new framework to be discussed in the next-week round of Geneva peace talks amid the weakening of opposition stance and lack of International Community support, well-informed sources told Zaman al-Wasl.

The Syrian National Council believes that the western–backed opposition groups had become a victim of the regional interests in Syria since the main priority has turned to be fighting ISIS more than ousting Bashar al-Assad.

Rebels’ discords and mounting power of Kurdish-led forces have also change the equation in Syrian conflict. The ultimate support of Russia and Iran to Assad makes such demands to change the regime irrational, sources said.

Six previous rounds of negotiations that discussed political transition, new constitution, elections and combating terrorism, have made little progress towards a political solution to the six-year war, which has left more than 470,000 people dead.
