(Zaman Al Wasl)- In a tent on the edge of al-Qaryeh camp in Arsal, Khaled, a 43-year-old Syrian refugee from the town of Qara in Western Qalamoun has opened his small workshop to repair washing machines and refrigerators for his refugee family in the al-Qaryeh camp.
The workshop, despite its humility and poverty, was enough to bring back what he bought for his six-year-old daughter Aya of Eid clothes.
Aya’s three brothers, Muhammad, Halima and Abdul Rahman, had their share of the new garments as promised by their father Khaled at the coming Eid al-Adha, according to what their mother said to neighbors with whom Zaman al-Wasl talked.
Only Aya had the most of her father's savings, which he provided from his work in his small workshop to get her dream of acquiring blue jeans, a red sweater and a leather shoulder bag.
On Friday, June 30, 2017, Khalid agreed to open his workshop to fix what could be repaired from a broken refrigerator in his workshop before the time of Friday prayers. However, the camp, which was surrounded by the Lebanese infantry regiments and heavily armed soldiers prevented him from going to his workshop.
Khalid decided to return and stay near his four children so as not to panic and fear of the raid on his camp.
The soldiers who broke into the Khalid’s tent did not pay attention to the beauty of Aya's clothes, which she still wears while the Eid is over.
They did not read in the eyes of Halima, Mohammed and Abdel Rahman the burning of the wait for a moment when their father would buy them a bright holiday outfits.
Few hours after his arrest, the mother managed to convince her children that their father would return soon, to fulfill his promise to buy the Eid al-Adha clothes, but the leaked picture of their father’s cold tortured body them made them realize that there is no Eid anymore , no clothes, and no joy will visit the family again. It is the era of grief that raged at once.
A sadness still surrounds them while they wait for the release of the body of their father who was killed him under torture.
