Tahrir al-Sham executes refugee says he committed crimes, burglary

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Former al-Qaeda group has executed a Syrian refugee famed for burglary and excessive abuses against refugees in the Lebanese town of Arsal, local reporter said Wednesday.

Before leaving the mountainous border region to Idlib province over an evacuation deal with Lebanese militia Hezbollah, fighters of Tahrir al-Sham had arrested Raad al-Amouri, 30, from the queuing  buses which and opened fire on him.

Al-Amouri had been accused of killing a fellow refugee in 2016 and by dealing with Hezbollah.

Last week, Hezbollah took most of the mountainous border area, called Jroud Arsal, in a joint offensive with the regime army to drive Tahrir al-Sham from the area, which straddles the border.

About 9,000 people are expected to be transferred and go to Idlib province, a Hezbollah media unit said.

Lebanon hosts nearly 1.5 million refugees - about a quarter of its population. Most live in severe poverty and several thousand are in makeshift camps east of Arsal in a barren mountainous region.

The multi-sided Syrian conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of people and driven at least 11 million from their homes - about half Syria's pre-war population.
