Northern Homs awaits aid entry after Russia military police deploy

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russian military police have been deployed in the northern countryside of central Homs province, setting up two checkpoints and observation points as part of a cease-fire deal reached last week.

The main Russian checkpoint was in Dar al-Kabira crossing, the only gateway to northern Homs, local reporter said.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov announced the military police deployment on Thursday, saying the Russian military police will establish two checkpoints in the Harb Nafseh and Dayr districts and three observation posts in the districts of Khmeirat, Qubeibat and Tel Ameri, AP reported.

The truce that began Thursday and the deployment are part of the third of four planned cease-fires reached in recent months under an agreement brokered by Russia, Iran and Turkey in May that aims to "de-escalate" the violent Syrian civil war, now in its sixth year.

Meanwhile, rebel factions operating in northern Homs have formed a committee of 15 commanders who will meet with the Russian military to discuss the file of forcibly disappeareds and detainees as well the food and aid entry to the besieged districts.
