Eastern Ghouta: rebels ambushed regime elite forces, kill 20

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Failaq al-Rahman, key rebel group fighting regime forces in Eastern Ghouta, said on Thursday it had ambushed army’s elite forces in Ein Tarma, for the second time in 48 hours, leaving 20 soldiers, spokesman said.

The elite forces of Fourth Armoured Division have been facing fierce resistance by rebels who oppose Russia ceasefire deal. On Wednesday 10 troops were killed in another ambush, said Wael Alwan, spokesman for Faylaq al-Rahman.

Meanwhile, the regime forces have intensified bombing on Jobar neighborhood, seeking to take last rebel stronghold in Damascus, local activists and rebel spokesman said. Such move has failed several times since revolution erupted in 2011.

This week, regime airstrikes on Kafr Batna and Zamalka left 8 people killed, including children, Civil Defense, local rescuing group, said.

Activists said more than 15 surface-to surface missiles had pounded Ein Tarma and Zamalka.

Parts of Eastern Ghouta are protected by a cease-fire agreement. The regime has largely targeted areas held by rebel factions not party to that agreement.
