Germany: Iraqi killed in brawl with two Syrian refugees

(Zaman Al Wasl)- An Iraqi refugee was killed and another injured on Friday in brawl with two Syrian refugees in in the German city of Wuppertal, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

The activists quoted witnesses in Wuppertal and the German police website as saying that Kurdish Iraqi man was killed in the quarrel whereas his brother was seriously wounded when two Syrian youths from Aleppo beat him with a knife to kill him in the district of North Rhine.

The two Syrians, who reportedly escaped, quarreled after being subjected to a scam of the young Iraqi, amounting to 80 thousand euros, where the Iraqi exploited the Syrian ignorance of the German language and made him sign documents allowing him to seize those funds.

The Arab residents of Wuppertal lived a tense night especially after a several relatives and friends of the deceased went to the house of the young Syrian in order to revenge those whom they can find there, but Syrian neighbors smuggled those in the house and called the police.

According to our sources, the Syrians are still out of sight while the police are trying to find and arrest them, asking those who know anything to provide them with information.

The sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the crime of Friday, which shook the German city, which is overcrowded with Syrians, sums up part of the many difficulties experienced by the refugees in Germany, the fact that they cannot master the difficult German language to become at the mercy of brokers, translators and fraudsters, Arabs and others.

Wuppertal was one of the major cities of industrial revival in the ninth and early twentieth centuries, but later lost much of its importance and was abandoned by the majority of its people. It became a magnet for waves of refugees, especially Syrians and Iraqis, due to available housing in many areas. The number of refugees has exceeded 10,000.

Our sources confirm that the influx of refugees into the city has caused them many difficulties, including the inability of schools to absorb them as a result of the great pressure on them. Some students may have to travel long distances to go to school on the outskirts of the city.

The families of refugees also have marital problems due to the lack of social horizons and the absence of parents who usually help to alleviate these tensions. Many people in the city also find it difficult to find a partner , according to our sources.

Finally, the problems and quarrels among the refugees themselves are compounded by the situation and conflicts are often over differences from their home countries.
