(Zaman Al Wasl)- The cutaneous leishmaniasis outbreak began among Syrian refugees in Wadi Khaled refugee camps in Lebanon, medics told Zaman al-Wasl on Tuesday.
Dr. Odai Obeid, Director of the district Health Center said they identified Leishmania after checking the patients, saying it has been spread widely.
It was not the first time leishmaniasis began among refugees in Lebanon, In 2012, medics identified the outbreak due to bad health condition in their temporary settlements which are affected by inadequate sanitation, lack of access to clean water, overcrowding, and increased exposure to disease.
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease comprising a wide spectrum of chronic infections in humans and in certain animal species.
Lebanon is a home for 1.5 million Syrian refugees Lebanon who have been affected by the country's political rifts and discriminatory acts.
