(Zaman Al Wasl)- U.S.-led coalition forces battling Islamic State have conducted an airdrop near al-Mayadeen city northeast of Deir Ezzor province, local activists said on Wednesday.
The airdrop of American and allied troops seeks to uproot ISIS from eastern Syria amid fears that regime forces will catch more ground from radical group what makes the Kurdish-led forces in possible fight with regime forces and allied Shiite militias, said Journalist Ahmed Ramadan from Furat Post news site.
The Assad troops and allies on Tuesday broke a three-year siege imposed by ISIS on Deir Ezzor.
Backed by Russian air support, the army and their allies had been advancing towards Deir Ezzor on several fronts in recent weeks, and on Tuesday reached the western outskirts of the city after ISIL defences collapsed.
