Damascus: southern suburbs refuse Iran-backed evacuation deals

Zaman Al Wasl)- Residents of Babila and Beyt Sahm, southern suburbs of Damascus, have  demonstrated against forced displacement and demographic change under the Four-Town evacuation deal that includes Kafriya and al-Fu'a, Madaya and Zabadani".

Hundreds of people of from Yalda demonstrated on Wednesday from the mosque, and walked towards Babila chanting slogans expressing their attachment to their areas and their rejection of any project or decision to displace them from the region and demanding a solution that preserves their remain in their cities.

The reporter confirmed that hundreds of civilians also left the towns of Babila and Beyt Sahm and met near Sidi Mekdad checkpoint.

In the same context, rebel factions operating in the south of Damascus issued a statement in which they rejected all agreements or projects that would forcibly displace the residents of the area south of Damascus.

The statement was signed Jaish al-Ababil - Army of Islam – Damascus Divison – Ahrar al-Sham Movement - Aknaf Beyt al-Maqdis.

The demonstrations came after yesterday's leaks of Asharq al-Awsat Saudi newspaper which talked about the features of a Turkish-Iranian deal sponsored by Russia, including the exchange of a military presence in Idlib in exchange for Iranian control over the south of Damascus and the expansion of the Sayeda Zeinab area.
