Aleppo: 26 rebel groups unite under one command to deter regime offensive

(Zaman Al Wasl)- 26 rebel groups operating in Aleppo province have unified under one command on Monday, hours after a major attack by regime forces on their strongholds north and east of Aleppo.

The new joint command come as the Syrian regime extended its aerial campaign to Aleppo province after a week of heavy bombing on Idlib and Hama provinces, killing 5 people.

The airstrikes have targeted the northern and western countryside of Aleppo, including most of rebel-held towns. The teaching has been suspended in the FSA-held town of Atareb due to the attacks.

Most of the united rebel groups are backed by Turkey that seek to join the National Army.

Early September, More than 40 rebel factions agreed on a proposed plan to create a single "national army" to unify the fractured opposition movement.

The idea was proposed earlier this week by the opposition's interim government in exile and by the Syrian Islamic Council (SIC), a body of Syrian Muslim clerics established in 2014 in Turkey, AFP reported.
