(Eqtsad)-Sorcery business is considered one of the darkest and most secret activities in Syrian society. New investigation and research into this phenomena shows the big indulgence of many Syrians, particularly women, in this disgraceful and infamous activity.
Tens of stories about this secret and hidden part of Syrian society have surfaced to light. Shameful stories led by skilled sorcerers hiding behind the mask of religious rituals, and many illiterate and educated women who often fell prey to such tricks alike.
Over the past few weeks, one of the most stunning stories of sorcery has gone viral in the capital Damascus due to the horrors caused by some women who were completely unaware and absentminded.
In the details a sorcerer who lives in the district of Jaramanah, known by the first letter of his name (S) used to receive dozens of women in his house every day. He used to provide his customers with many services such as writing spells and phylactery, in addition to disabling spells of evil eye and treating people haunted with evil spirits.
The sorcerer was arrested when he was sleeping with one of his female customers whom he convinced to be haunted by an evil spirit and that he would be able to cast it away if he touched her genitals.
Women often resort to witchcraft in order to seek their husbands’ passion or to seduce a man. Some other women even use sorcery to separate women from their husbands.
Although N was twenty years old, the newly married woman had feelings of hatred towards her handsome young husband.
The story began after many problems faced the new couple. The wife could not sleep with her husband and tried to distance herself from him by visiting her family very often without having any clear cause for this behavior.
"I learned after long time that someone had bewitched me or written a spell to cause that to me," said the husband, who asked to be anonymous due to the sensitivity of his case. "I went to one of the sheikhs who are specialized in Ruqia al-Shar’iya (reading certain verses of Quran to disable spells and witchcraft) and he gave me a prayer from the Quran and asked me to recite it many times at home."
“By the help of the sheikh I realized later that one of my wife's acquaintances has become envious of our excellent relationship, so I had to see a sorcerer to help me disable her spell,” he says.
Customers pay big amounts of money for various spells. A private source, who asked not to be named, told Eqtsad that the cost of writing a spell against evil eye or a spell that brings good fortune ranges between 3 and 6 thousand Syrian pounds.
The source added that finding out whether someone is cursed by an evil eye or by a spell costs between 3 to 9 thousand pounds. The sorcerer earns large sums of money from such spells and witchcraft that may reach 60 to 70 thousand Syrian pounds from each customer. (Reporting by Mohamed Kassah; Editing by Jamal Mamo)
