Daraa: rebels threaten to strike regime bastions if ceasefire violations continue

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebel factions operating in southern Syria, in statement issued Saturday, said it will retaliate against regime violations for the de-escalation agreement in Daraa province.

The operation room of al-Bunyan al-Marsous said the regime army had pounded the opposition-held neighborhoods of Daraa city with mortar rounds, leaving dozen of people wounded.

Meanwhile, local activists documented 15 violations in the past 24 hours and more than 136 violations to the Russia-brokered deal that went into effect in July.

Syrian regime officials say the ceasefire deals policy is a temporary one as the regime Army backed by Shiite militias have been pounding Eastern Ghouta, Homs, Hama and Idlib since two weeks.

Rebels recaptured two villages in Allajat region were seized by the regime forces early on Friday near the Jordanian border, local activists said.

Mahmoud al-Horani, Daraa-based activist, said the regime forces seek to secure the supply route links between the capital and Daraa city.

Also in Daraa, the army's elite Fourth Armored Division has become the only military unit to control checkpoints in Daraa which used to be under the intelligence control, sources said.

The move gives Maher al-Assad's forces the upper hand in southern Syrian as well it seeks to decrease mounting complaints over corrupt intelligence members who run the checkpoints.
