(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Supreme Criminal Court in Amman on Tuesday has sentenced a Jordanian national to death for raping and killing a Syrian refugee child three months ago. The brutal crime against the 7-year-old Syrian child on July 6 has sparked wide anger in Jordan, making the crime a public opinion case. The Syrian and Jordanian activists demanded the maximum punishment against the perpetrator who has a criminal record over drug dealing. In relevant development, the Human Rights Watch said in new report that the Jordanian authorities have been summarily deporting Syrian refugees – including collective expulsions of large families, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The Syrians are not being given a meaningful chance to challenge their removal and Jordan has not assessed their need for international protection. By the end of August, the UN estimated 6.5 million people had been displaced within Syria, while more than 3 million had fled to countries such as Lebanon (1.1 million), Jordan (600,000) and Turkey (800,000).
