(Zaman Al Wasl)- Seven people were arrested in the city of al-Tal, northeast the capital as regime froces waged new arrest campaign to hunt youth escaping conscription, local activists said Saturday.
Murad Mardini, a communication officer in the Voice of the Capital network, said the regime forces al-Tal and arrested seven people in the last three days.
The young men may have been arrested as part of the regime campaign to draft young men for the mandatory or reserve military service within the regime army, Mardini said.
Mardini said that the regime relies heavily on civilian informants to gain information and make arrests. He explained that informants were redeployed to various neighborhoods in al-Tal after the regime forces entered the city in early December 2016.
Al-Tal signed a reconciliation agreement with the regime at the end of November 2016. The agreement stipulated that 500 resistance fighters and more than 1,500 young men, wanted by the regime, who refused to settle their affairs with the regime, leave with their families to Idlib in northern Syria.
