Daraa: suicide bombing kills and wounds 10 rebels

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a base belongs to moderate rebels in southern Daraa province, leaving one fighter dead and ten more wounded, local activists said Tuesday.

The attack targeted ‘Mu'taz Bellah’ Brigade in Mzairib town in the western countryside of Daraa. Activists said the suicide bomber had links with the Islamic State.

On Monday, 10 fighters from the Jaish Khaled Bin Walid group were killed, along with two women believed to be the wives of fighters by suspected Israeli airstrikes on Sahm al-Jolan town near Mzairib, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The strike hit a base belonging to the group, which has pledged allegiance to Daesh but was never formally incorporated into it.

The Observatory said Monday’s strike came several months after 16 fighters from the group were killed in suspected Israeli airstrikes in the same area.

Jaish Khaled Bin al-Walid was formed in May 2016, and is an alliance of several militant groups, the largest of them the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, which was listed by Washington as a “terrorist” group.

In November 2016, Israel’s army said it had targeted members of the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade after they fired at an Israeli soldier in the occupied Golan Heights.

The Observatory said Jaish Khaled Bin Walid is estimated to have some 1,200 fighters, and controls territory in western Deraa province, along the border with the occupied Golan Heights.

Two week ago, six rebel factions led by former al-Qaeda group launched assault on Jaish Khaled Ibn al-Walid near the Israeli-Occupied Golan Heights.

Tahrir al-Sham alliance backed by Ahrar al-Sham and four armed groups is seeking to defeat to break the siege imposed on the village of Hait as well to take village of Jellin and its camp in the western countryside. (With AFP)
