Prominent media activist shot dead in Turkey

 (Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian media activist Mahmoud Orabi was shot dead by a masked gunman on Thursday in front of his home in Turkey, brother told Zaman al-Wasl.

The assailant who was riding motorbike has opened fire on Orabi at 3.18 p.m. in front of his house. No more information come to surface as the body of the victim is still in a hospital in the town of Otomania town.

The Turkish police took the cameras overlooking the crime scene to review the records, without giving any details about the perpetrator.

In an old WhatsApp message, Orabi, real last name is Daaboul, told Zaman al-Wasl that he was a target but he didn't accuse the Assad regime or ISIS. His doubts were about "people who count themselves on the (Syrian) revolution”.
 
Ziad Daaboul, the eldest brother of Mahmud, told Zaman al-Wasl that a masked person riding a motorcycle entered his brother's residence and waited for him to enter with his wife and patted him with three bullets in the chest from close range.

Daboul revealed that his brother, who was arrested at the beginning of the revolution in the regime's prisons, had received many threats to liquidate him in the past. He was often asked to leave Turkey because he knew of the chaos that was taking place there.

Orabi who was born  in Bab Amr neighborhood in central Homs city had been subjected to a previous assassination attempt at his residence in al-Rihaniyah in April 2016, when masked men also shot him, resulting in two fractures in the skull and the lower jaw where a bullet One of whom was riding in his car in the city market, which is rife with tens of thousands of Syrian refugees.

 On September 21, Syrian opposition activist Orouba Barakat, 60, and her 22-year-old daughter Halla were killed by their cousin in their apartment in Istanbul's central Uskudar district.

Naji al Jerf, another prominent Syrian activist was killed by unknown assailant on December 27, 2015. Al-Jerf was a Syrian journalist, filmmaker, editor and both a co-founder and filmmaker for the organization Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently in Gaziantep, Turkey.

AlJerf was known for his reporting about ISIS and uncovering their secrets before he was assassinated.
