(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian opposition's interim government has formed three military corps in northern Syria in an attempt to build national army and unifying scattred rebel groups in areas controlled by the Turkey-backed Euphrates Shield, sources said.
The move to hand over the Bab al-Salama border crossing three weeks ago gave the National Coalition's government new power weight due regional and international interest in the key opposition group.
The corps will be announced before the end of the year to manage liberated areas, taking advantage of the Turkish military support.
On September 18, the interim government appointed Colonel Abd al-Jabbar al-Akeidi, Colonel Hassan Marai Hamadeh as deputy defense minister of Jawad Abu Hatab, who was temporarily appointed defense minister.
According to the sources, the three corps are about to end, each corps includes between 10 and 15 thousand fighters, while the size of the Corps in regular armies between 30 and 40 thousand fighters.
The process of forming the three corps will be implemented in many liberated areas, especially the northern countryside of Homs, the southern Daraa province and other fronts, seeking to restructure these factions and work to control security in light of mounting criticism to the Euphrates Shield.
