Militia commander says he will slay displaced if they return to Deir Ezzor
(Zaman Al Wasl)- Commander of a pro-regime militia has threatened civilians of Deir Ezzor of brutal reprisals, days after the capture of eastern province, according to footage surfaced on social media.

Firas al-Iraqiya, head of Civil Defence Units in Deir Ezzor, in a video statement fueled by hate speech, warned fleeing people to not returning home otherwise they will killed and eliminated.

The notorious statement has recalled a similar threat by Issam Zahreddine, the former military commander in Deir Ezzor province, who had been killed on October 18.

Local activists called on the International Community to save civilians trapped in last ISIS pockets in Deir Ezzor province as the Syrian and Russian warplanes step up its aerial bombing.

People of Hwaijet Qatea town in Euphrates valley are afraid of imminent massacre as the Islamic State took them as human shields.

The regime army declared victory over Islamic State on Thursday, saying its capture of the jihadists’ last town in the country marked the collapse of their three-year, hardline reign in the in the region.

The army and its allies are still fighting Islamic State in desert areas near Albu Kamal, the last town the militant group had held in Syria, near the border with Iraq, the army said.

But the capture of the town ends Islamic State’s era of territorial rule over the so-called caliphate that it proclaimed in 2014 across Iraq and Syria and in which millions suffered under its hardline, repressive strictures.

Meanwhile, about 3000 displaced people have arrived to the PYD-held camps in Hasaka province, fleeing the border town of Albu kamal east of Deir Ezzor province, activists said on Saturday.

Some Iraqi families were among the displaced who settled in the deserted al-Hol camp that controlled by the powerful Kurdish militia. (Reporting by Ethar Abdulhaq)
