ISIS not defeated yet as clashes still underway in Deir Ezzor

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 160 militants from the paramilitary National Defense Units have arrived in Deir Ezzor province as fighting with the Islamic State still underway in the eastern countryside, local media unit said Tuesday.

The reinforcement comes as regime forces seek to uproot ISIS from its last pockets in Deir Ezzor after Albu Kamal's capture.

Journalist Salama Hussein from Furat post told Zaman al-Wasl that three children were killed in regime airstrikes on the ISIS-held village of al-Ghabra. Five more villages still under ISIS control in the eastern province.

Near al-Mayadeen city, the regime forces failed to press any gains against ISIS in al-Qouriya town as clashes still ongoing in Makhan village. the regime forces seek to control the last territory under ISIS controls that situated between ALbu Kamal and al-Mayadeen.

The regime army and allied militias, including Hezbollah and NDF, have taken full control of Albu Kamal which has changed hands several times.

Regime forces announced the capture of the town near the Iraqi border earlier this month but lost it to a blistering IS counter-attack a week ago.

A string of territorial defeats across northern and eastern Syria had left Albu Kamal as the last significant Syrian town held by ISIS.
