Tahrir Al-Sham killed 400 regime troops in 4 weeks: media outlet

(Zaman Al Wasl)- 1400 regime troops have been killed and wounded in a month of clashes with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib, Aleppo and Hama provinces, the group's news site said on Sunday.

Iba'a news agency said in a death toll infographic that 400 regime troops and allied militants were killed as 1000 more were wounded by Tahrir al-Sham.

The regime army and its allies have faced resistance by Tahrir al-Sham in central and northern Syria where many assaults have been failed to achieve a significant advance or to protect loyal villages.

According to a new estimate by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 119,000 pro-regime forces have been killed, including 62,000 army troops, tens of thousands of loyalist militiamen, and 1,556 fighters from Hezbollah, AFP reported.

The Salafist jihadist group was formed on 28 January 2017 as a merger between Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly known as Nusra Front), the Ansar al-Din Front, Jaysh al-Sunna, Liwa al-Haqq, and the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement. After the announcement, additional groups and individuals joined.

Despite the merger, Tahrir al-Sham has been accused to be working as al-Qaeda's Syrian branch on a covert level but it has officially denied being part of al-Qaeda and said in a statement that the group is "fully independent and doesn't represent any foreign body or organization".
