SDF shelling kills 4 people in eastern Deir Ezzor

(Zaman Al Wasl)- U.S.-backed Kurdish militias killed four civilians in shelling targeted the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor province, local sources said on Thursday.

The ground sheeling hit the town of al-Hajeen as hundreds of people keep fleeing ISIS-held areas.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which declared victory last week in its assault in Deir Ezzor still face resistance by ISIS fighters who still control an array of villages east of the Euphrates river that bisects the oil-rich province.

Activists said the SDF took three villages on Wednesday after fierce clashes with ISIS.

The eastern countryside has endured to heavy bombing by the US-led coalition. 

On Wednesday, US warplanes killed at least 20 displaced people in the town of Eastern Jerzi in the eastern countryside, local news site Furat (Euphrates) Post reported.

The Assad army and Kurdish militias have pushed Islamic State from much of the country’s north and east. The borders of ISIS has shrinked in Syria and Iraq to be a small pockets after fall of Raqqa, the de facto capital, Deir Ezzor and Albu Kamal.
