Regime forces, ISIS seize 20 villages in Hama province

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime forces and Daesh took 20 villages from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Hama province, local activists said on Tuesday.

The Islamic State took 8 villages while the regime forces seized control of the strategic town of al-Rahjan with 11 more villages in the eastern countryside of Hama.

Russian-backed regime forces launched an operation in Idlib and Hama provinces in the last days of 2017 and have retaken villages every day since.

On Monday, Ahrar al-Sham movement declared general mobilisation in northern Syria, calling for uniting ranks as regime forces make rapid gains in Idlib and Hama provinces.

The statement by once Syria's powerful Islamist group has renewed accusation for for Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an alliance spearheaded by the former al-Qaeda offshoot, saying it had seized and confiscated rebel bastions and weapons before being handed over gradually to the regime forces in the last two weeks. 

94 villages and towns have been seized by regime forces since the began to its assault in Idlib and Hama on November 22, 2017, activists and rebels commanders said.

The expected gains have also followed accusations for Tahrir al-Sham of collusion with the regime army in Hama and Idlib from Jaish al-Islam.

Mohammed Aloush, senior commander in Jaish al-Islam and former chief negotiator in Geneva talks has accused an alliance spearheaded by the former al-Qaeda offshoot of collusion with the regime forces who made rapid gains in the province of Hama and Idlib over the last two weeks.

Aloush has accused Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the commander-in-chief of Tahrir al-Sham, of 'delivering Idlib to  regime forces.   

In the adjacent province of Homs, 2 children killed and dozen more wounded in regime artillery on a de-escalation zone in the northern countryside, local reporter said on Tuesday.

The artillery bombardment targeted the town of Kafrlaha, the largest town in al-Hola region, an array opposition-held villages and towns.

Northern Homs is the third de-escalation zone agreed by Iran, Turkey and Russia in Astana last August.
