ISIS kills prominent Hezbollah commander east of Homs

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Prominent commander in the Lebanese Hezbollah militia was killed by ISIS in the eastern countryside of Homs province, local reporter said on Sunday.

Four Hezbollah fighters were also killed with Mohamed Sadeq Sharafeddin in the Syrian desert as social media activists loyal to Iran say the U.S. has been involved in his killing.

The slain commander considered as one of the close aides of Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hezbollah.

More than 1,600 fighters from Hezbollah have since in seven year of fighting, according to estimate by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Rebel factions and activists assure that death toll of Hezbollah is more than that amid media blackout in Lebanon over the involvement in Syria which has been substantial since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in the southern city of Daraa in March 2011.

Military backing from Shiite militias, including Hezbollah, has proven critical to Bashar al-Assad in the war against the Syrian people.

The Islamic State still controls a territory in the gas-rich desert that lies between Homs and Deir Ezzor provinces.
