Assad keeps 'old' officers in service for another year

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Bashar al-Assad has promoted his close army officers in the Air Force, keeping most of them in their positions in 2018, well-informed source told Zaman al-Wasl.

According to a new decree, most of Air Force commanders will remain in their positions for a new year although they exceeded the legal age; most prominent of these commanders are General Brigadier Jameel al-Hasan Director of the Air Intelligence Directorate and Air Force Commander Major-General Ahmad Baloul, his deputies and directors of departments.

The source asserts that most air force commanders and managers have exceeded the legal age and age that allows them to remain in office or serve in accordance with the Officers' Service Act.

The regime lost hundreds of pilots over the years, during which they carried out thousands of sorties against the rebellious Syrian regions and committed hundreds of massacres in cooperation with Russian Air Force, which intervened on September 30, 2015.

Zaman al-Wasl published lists of Assad pilots, including the names of more than 400 pilots, most of whom participated in the killing of Syrians, with international disregard for the demand to protect civilians and establish a no-fly zone.

The promotions included the Chief of Staff of Air Forces 20 and 22 to Major General Ali Ghanem, Chief of Staff of Air Division 22 at Shayrat Airport and Pilot Commander Imad Nafouri, Chief of Staff of Air Force 20 at al-Dumeir Airport.

The two officers are the most prominent air commanders and decision makers in the20th and 22th Air Force divisions.

The source revealed that the promotion of the two chief of staff promotions from the rank of brigadier-general to the rank of brigadier is the first of its kind in the history of the air force, as there has been no record of a promotion for the post of chief of staff of the Air Force since the beginning of the formation of air force divisions in the Syrian air force.

The source revealed 26 pilots were promoted from the rank of colonel pilot to the rank of brigadier general pilot, who are still under arms as pilots in the air force squadrons, regardless of any position that qualifies them for promotion.

Regime leadership decided two years ago to promote all the pilots who are still under arms to the rank of brigadier-general, regardless of any position that qualifies them to this rank due to reasons imposed by reality of the air forces of the regime.

Promotions also included the appointment of the butcher of the market of the city of al-Atareb, Brigadier-general Zuhair Ahmed Ibrahim, as Chief of Staff of Major General 70.

According to the source, promotion of I brahim came as a reward following a long series of massacres carried out by this pilot since the beginning of the use of air force. He is described as the butcher and his latest documented massacre was the massacre of the vegetable market in the town of al-Atareb on Monday, 13/11/2017 which killed more than 500 dead and wounded.

The promotion was awarded to pilot Brigadier Zuhair Ibrahim, one of the most important decision-makers in the Major General 70 at Tifour Airport while remaining one of the most important pilots implementing the flights day and night.

The source also confirmed that Brigadier General Mohammad al-Ajouz from Tartous-Dweir Sheikh Saad was appointed as the new commander of the Squadron 19 replacing Brigadier Zuhair Ibrahim. The old man is also one of the regime's most extreme and criminal pilots at Tifour and Air Force.
