ISIS to capture Buffer Zone near Israeli-Occupied Golan Heights: sources

(Zaman Al Wasl)- An ISIS branch in southern Syria has been mobilizing its militants to seize an Israeli-Syrian buffer zone since 1973 near the Occupied Golan Heights, sources told Zaman al-Wasl Monday.

Jaish Khalid Ibn al-Walid seeks to capture the ‘Yellow Zone’ that includes 5 towns and the strategic hilltop of al-Jabiya.

Seizing the buffer zone, will enable ISIS to cut off a supply route between Quneitra and Daraa provinces where the rebel-held areas will be divided.

Hael al-Nabelsi, rebel commander, told Zaman al-Wasl that the armed factions are aware of ISIS move and they are ready to deter the extremist group.

In the last few weeks, Jaish Khaled Bin Walid launched a serise of attacks on rebel bastions on the villages of Hait and Sheikh Sa'ad in Yarmouk Basinin the western countryside of Daraa city.

Jaish Khaled Bin Walid was formed in May 2016, and is an alliance of several jihadist groups, the largest of them the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, which was listed by Washington as a terrorist group.

At least 10 members of Jaish Khaled Bin Walid, along with two women believed to be the wives of fighters, were killed last October in Israeli air strikes on the town of Sahm al-Jolan in the west of Daraa, according to AFP.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Jaish Khaled Bin Walid is estimated to have some 1,200 fighters, and controls territory in western Daraa province, along the border with the Occupied Golan Heights.
