At least 20 troops from Tartus killed in two weeks

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 20 troops from coastal Tartus province killed in the first two weeks of February, local activists said.

Tartus is the main manpower supply for the regime army and its backed militias. Posters of dead young fighters have been sweeping the streets of Tartus and its countryside.

More than 119,000 pro-regime forces have been killed, including 62,000 troops, tens of thousands of loyalist militiamen, and 1,556 fighters from Hezbollah, according to a new estimate by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

About 500 regime troops and allied militants killed by ISIS, rebels and former al-Qaeda group in January.

The high death toll come as regime backed by Russia's heavy aerial bombing launched major attacks in the embattled enclave of Eastern Ghouta near the capital, and in the northwestern provinces of Idlib, Hama and Aleppo.

Activists also reported death of 6 child fighters fighting along the regime forces in January.

Shortage in manpower among the regime forces pushed Bashar al-Assad to recruit children and women in loyal areas to defend his palace in Damascus.

The fighters who under 18 have no military experience even some of them have no training or practice. They turned an easy target for opposition armed factions, pro-regime activists say.

The Alawites-dominated areas still the main manpower supply for Bashar al-Assad's regime. The mourning posters and statements have been sweeping the streets and social media pages.

More than 470,000 people have been killed and 12 millions have been driven from their homes since Syria's revolution erupted in 2011.
