Syrian regime ambassador to Jordan, Bahjat Suleiman, exceeded again the diplomatic norms
and practices after issuing an aggressive statement against a Jordanian parliament
member.
The statement described MB, Abdulla Ubeidat, as ‘a pawn in the Wahabist-Zionist axis with more vulgar words far away from the diplomatic context.
The written 'offensive' came as a response to Ubeidat’s word in the Jordanian Parliament which praised the Syrian people, saying that Bashar al-Assad is damned by the Levant land and its people.
Assad’s
ambassador and former Intelligence General is an ardent
critic of Jordan, especially on social networks, accusing it of being a puppet
of the United States and Israel. On May 2013, he bitterly rebuked Amman in
comments to media for hosting a meeting of the anti-Assad “Friends of Syria”
group, according to Al Arabiya net.
Jordan’s
foreign minister, Nasser Judeh, warned Suleiman on June 2013, to stop criticizing his host or risk
expulsion.
“This
is a final warning,” Judeh told the Associated Press months ago. Failing to commit,
Suleiman risks becoming “persona non-grata.”
Nasser
Judeh’s remark has underlined growing tension between the two neighbors. Jordan
backs Syrian rebels seeking to topple President Bashar Assad.
