Deir Ezzor: US-led airstrikes hit school sheltering displaced, kill 25

(Zaman Al Wasl)- US-led coalition airstrikes on a school sheltering displaced people have killed at least 25 in an ISIS-held village at the Iraqi border, the group’s news agency said Saturday.

Amaq said Friday's strikes hit a school in the al-Sha’fah village near Al Bukamal town.

One of the wounded said in footage posted online that 5 members of his family were killed. Activists say the school that has been reduced to rubble was also sheltering families of ISIS fighters.

More than 65 civilians, including 20 women and 7 children, have been killed by the U.S. airstrikes in February.

Last Thursday, the U.S.-led airstrikes killed 20 people in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor. Amaq said the strikes in support of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces had also destroyed the main bakery in Hajain town.

In its turn, the SDF said its fighters had pressed new gains, taking control of the village of al-Bahra.

Also in Deir Ezzor, local activists have accused the SDF fighters of expelling displaced people from the government buildings and utilities in the eastern countryside.

The move will increase the suffering of hundreds of people in the eastern province, activists say. The displaced can not afford rent or any expense as the SDF seeks to take the former regime buildings for its benefit.

The YPG-led alliance has uprooted Daesh (Islamic State from most of Deir Ezzor, just few pockets still held by the militant group at the Iraqi border.
