Deir Ezzor: US-led airstrikes kill 36 ISIS militants, 16 civilians

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 50 people, including 36 Daesh militants and 16 displaced, were killed in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor as the US-led coalition stepped up aerial bombing on last ISIS stronghold near the Iraqi border, local media unit said on Sunday.

Daesh is still controlling a town and four villages in the eastern bank of Euphrates River, such a small territory has come under heavy bombardment by the US-coalition and Kurdish-led forces.

Suhaib Jaber, reporter of  the Furat Post, said 16 civilians had been killed in airstrikes hit the camp of al-Dhahra at the Iraqi border.

While 23 ISIS fighters were killed in strikes on the village of al-Sha’fah. US strikes have also killed 13 more militants in the town of al-Hajeen, accordign to Jaber.

Amaq, ISIS official media outlet, said on Friday that US-led airstrikes on a school sheltering displaced people killed at least 25 in al-Sha’fah near Al Bukamal town.

One of the wounded said in footage posted online that 5 members of his family were killed. Activists say the school that has been reduced to rubble was also sheltering families of ISIS fighters.

More than 80 civilians, including women and children, have been killed by the U.S. airstrikes in February.
