US-led coalition makes airdrop in Hasaka, four Iraqis arrested

(Zaman Al Wasl)- U.S.-led coalition has made an airdrop in the northeastern province of Hasaka, tracking suspected ISIS militants in border village with Iraq, residents told Zaman al-Wasl Monday.

The U.S. helicopters made the airdrop in Tel Hamis, where U.S. troops raided two houses sheltering Iraqi refugees. Four Iraqi citizens were arrested, according to the residents

Asayish, the local security forces in the Kurdish-held area, and the PYD militia fired warning shots on the two helicopters, thinking the raid was conducted by Turkey.

The U.S. forces have made more than 10 airdrops on ISIS-held areas and Kurdish areas in 2018.

There are now about 1,500 U.S. troops in Syria that initially came to train and support the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) in the anti-IS campaign, according to AP.

The SDF is believed to be in control of about 25 percent of Syria and they fear that a U.S. withdrawal may pit them against regime troops and their allies, in the absence of a political agreement.
