UK PM May says Russia has failed to divide Britain's allies

Prime Minister Theresa May said Monday Russia had "spectacularly failed" in efforts to divide Britain's allies following a nerve agent attack this month on a former Russian spy in an English city.

"If the Kremlin's goal is to divide and intimidate the Western alliance, then their efforts have spectacularly backfired," May told lawmakers in parliament.

Earlier Monday, the United States said it would expel 60 Russian diplomats, joining governments across Europe in punishing the Kremlin for the attack on Sergei Skripal and his daughter that they have blamed on Moscow.

Russia has denied being behind the attack on Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the southern English city of Salisbury on March 4.
