Iran fails to escape Israel's airstrikes in Syria

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A well-informed source told Zaman al-Wasl that Iran had removed its drones from the T-4 military air base to Palmyra air base two weeks after the Israeli airstrikes last February.

An official in the Syrian Air Force told Zaman al-Wasl that Iran on February 25 had transferred the remaining equipment and personnel to Palmyra airfield after allocating a special place at the airport, which is operating by the L39 squadron.

Geographically, the both bases are located in the Syrian desert, also known as Badiya, but the move by Iran's Air Force came as the key ally of Damascus believes that Palmyra base is more secure and protected.

But Monday's pre-dawn strike by Israel on T4 base that killed 14 people, including 3 Iranians, was a clear message that any Iranian personnel in Syria are target for Tel Aviv.  The strikes also revealed that Russia, Assad’s key ally has nothing to do to stop such raids.

Israel also killed seven Iranians, including pilots and experts  in February airstrikes which destroyed 75% of base and military equipment, according to sources.

The Israeli strikes in retaliation to its downed F-16 were very accurate and effective. The four launch-bases of the Iranian drones in T4 were completely destroyed.

Experts said the Russian were informed of the Israeli attack to a void any casualties. The Iranian target was just 400 meters far from the Russian base near T4 airfield.

So far, Iran has used various types of its drones in Syria such as Ababil, Shahad, Karrar, and the most advanced drones as Fotros and Muhajir.

The first Iranian in Syria was built at the beginning of 2012 in Beli military airport, southeast of Damascus.

Iran is a key ally of Bashar Assad and has sent troops to bolster his forces. Iran insists its soldiers are only in Syria in an advisory role, but hundreds have been killed since the civil war began in 2011.
