Syrian regime forces enter Douma, breach Russia's deal

(Zaman Al-Wasl)- Syrian regime forces infiltrated to Douma town despite a Russian deal preventing any presence for the Assad army in the newly-freed town of rebels, residents said on Friday.

One the civil committee members that runs the chemical-pounded town said the army troops have breached the Russian-brokered deal, crossing into eastern neighbourhoods

Sources said General Alexander Zourin, the Russian army officer who is responsible for Douma deal, had ordered the Russian military police to prevent any attempt by Assad troops to enter Douma.

The Russian military announced on Thursday that the regime is now in full control of Douma that was the site of a chemical attack last Saturday.

The United States and its allies consider punitive military attacks against the Assad regime following the suspected chemical attack that killed 78 people.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that an attack on Syria could take place "very soon or not so soon at all." Seeking to dispel criticism he had tweeted the time of an attack a day earlier, Trump argued he had never signaled the timing of retaliation.

In response to U.S. threats, Assad said Thursday a potential retaliation for the suspected chemical attack would be based on "lies" and would seek to undermine his forces' recent advances near Damascus.

British U.N. Ambassador Karen Pierce said Friday that Britain was not involved in an alleged deadly chemical weapons attack in Syria, rejecting an accusation by Russia's defence ministry.

"This is grotesque, it is a blatant lie, it is the worst piece of fake news we've yet seen from the Russian propaganda machine," Pierce told reporters
