Assassinations continue in Idlib, commanders and civilians killed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 20 people, including commanders, activists and army defectors, have been killed in the past 48 hours by assailants in the northern province of Idlib, local reporter said Friday.

Medics told Zaman al-Wasl that five civilians were killed by an improvised explosive device near the village of B’er al-Tayyib northwestern of Idlib city.

More victims fell Friday in the mounting assassination attacks in the towns of al-Nairab, Khan Sheikhoun, Saraqeb and Jisr al-Shughour.

The wave of assassinations has reflected the deteriorating security condition in a territory controled by former al-Qaeda group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

Medics told Zaman al-Wasl that unknown assailants had killed a commander in Tahrir al-Sham and his companions north of the town of Maarret al-Numan on Thursday.

Another commander in Jaish al-Ahrar was killed in Bennish town in gunfire.

Three rebels freighters who fled Damascus suburbs were killed in the northern countryside of Idlib. Thee more Turkistan fighters killed near Jisr al-Shughour town.

In the southern countryside, a Civil Defense volunteer was killed in the town of Telmans. Also, a university professor and activists were killed on Thursday.

Idlib has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.

'Salvation Government', civil body affiliated to Tahrir al-Sham said intensive efforts are being made to catch the perpetrators.

Tahrir al-Sham set up a plan to eliminate ISIS-linked sleeper cells in Idlib very soon, accoridng to sources.

The Salvation Government is an alternative government of the Syrian Opposition seated within Idlib Governorate, which was formed in September 2017.
