Syria's Regime says ‘no tangible’ results in Geneva talks

A week of talks between the Syrian regime and the opposition national coalition in Geneva ended on Friday without and tangible results, Syrian Foreign Minister  said.

“I regret to tell you that we have not reached tangible results during this week,” Walid Muallem told reporters after the closed-door negotiations wrapped up.

Muallem said the delegation will present a report to President Bashar al-Assad on what happened during the past week in Switzerland and make a decision along with the government on when to return for talks in Geneva with the opposition.

The minister also rejected the opposition's demand for the formation of a transitional authority that will not include members of Assad’s regime.

“The question of who leads Syria lies in the hands of the Syrian people,” the foreign minister said.

He accused the opposition of not speaking for the armed rebels on the ground, saying the opposition should include more groups.  Al Arabiya
