Women captured in operation on Russia's sleeper cells in Idlib

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hayat Tahrir al-Sham said it had tracked several sleeper cells, mostly run by women, in the northern province of Idlib, the group's news agency said Thursday.

The cells have been recruited by Russia and are operating in the city of Idlib and its western countryside, Ibaa agency said. The cells have direct links with the Russian air base in Hmeimym and the Political Intelligence Division in Latakia.

Idlib, which controlled by the former al-Qaeda group, has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.

About 30 people, including rebel commanders, have been killed in blasts and IEDs planted by regime cells in the last two weeks, activists said.

Also in Idlib, ten people from the same family have been killed in Russian airstrikes on the northern province of Idlib, rescuing group said Wednesday.

The deadly strikes hit the town of Maarzita in the southern countryside of Idlib, Civil Defense said.
