Car bomb kills 9 civilians in Idlib city

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 9 civilians killed and twenty others wounded in a car bomb attack hit the northern city of Idlib, local activists said Saturday.

The blast targeted a crowded district in the city which under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly known as Nusra Front.

No rebel group has claimed the responsibility for the attack as activists accuse Daesh and regime sleeper cells.

Tahrir al-Sham said it had tracked several sleeper cells, mostly run by women, in Idlib, the group's news agency said Thursday.

The cells have been recruited by Russia and are operating in the city of Idlib and its western countryside, Ibaa agency said. The cells have direct links with the Russian air base in Hmeimym and the Political Intelligence Division in Latakia.

Idlib, which controlled by the former al-Qaeda group, has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.

About 40 people, including rebel commanders, have been killed in blasts and IEDs planted by regime cells in the last two weeks, activists said.
