U.S. Army arrests 6 ISIS fighters in Hasaka

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The U.S. Army has arrested 6 Syrian ISIS fighters in northern Hasaka province after air raids targeted two border villages with Iraq, local activist told Zaman al-Wasl Tuesday.

Malaz al-Yousef, Hasaka-based activist said three attack helicopters carrying U.S. troops and Kurdish fighters had raided the villages of al-Taef and al-Harsa near Tel Hamis town, capturing 6 people said they were fighting with Daesh.

The pre-dawn raid followed a series of U.S. special operations chasing ISIS fighters in the northeastern region.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces took the village of al-Baouz al-Tahtani from Daesh in Deir Ezzor province.

The SDF, which the Kurdish YPG militia spearheads, has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria last year.

The U.S.-led airstrikes have killed more than 2000 civilians and have displaced thousands more, according to the United Nations.
