Assad's Defense Ministry denies looting acts in Yarmouk camp

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian Defense Ministry on Sunday condemned claims of looting the newly seized neighborhoods in southern Damascus after dozen of photos and footages documenting the massive raids of the civilians properties.

Local activists said regime forces that seized the ruined Yarmouk Palestinian camp and al-Hajar al-Aswad district from ISIS on Monday have been looting properties to be sold later in the Alawite-dominated districts in the
capital.

Footage showed three regime troops being humiliated by the Russian military police in Yarmouk camp, said involved in theft acts.

Bashar al-Assad's military has brought the entire capital and its suburbs under full government control for the first time since the 2011.

Fighting over the years had whittled down Yarmouk's population to just hundreds by the time regime's army began its assault last month.

Gunness said between 100 to 200 civilians were estimated to still be in Yarmouk, including people too old or sick to flee.

Yarmouk was, for decades, a bustling district where both Palestinians and Syrians lived. It was placed under crippling siege a year after the uprising began in 2011.
