Death toll of Idlib airstrikes rises to 38 civilians: monitor

The death toll from air strikes thought to have been carried out by Russian jets on a residential area in northwestern province of Idlib has risen to 38 civilians, a Britain-based monitor said Friday.

The toll, which includes five children, increased after bodies were pulled from the rubble and victims died of their injuries after the raids late Thursday in the town of Zardana in Idlib, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

Idlib has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and 2.3mn civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.

Syria has been locked in a devastating war since March 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity. UN and local monitoring groups says more than 400,000 people have been killed and million have been displaced.  (With Agencies)
