50 Italian troops deployed in oil field in Deir Ezzor: activist

(Zaman Al Wasl)- About 50 Italian army troops were deployed in an oil field in Deir Ezzor province on Monday, joining French and US personnel in the eastern bank of Euphrates River, activists said.

The new batch of the International Coalition troops settled in the al-Tanak oil field, according to activist Taj Allaow.

The US-led coalition has deployed hundreds of troops in oil-rich areas, blocking any advance by the regime army and allied militias amid an ultimate logistic backup for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in its war against Daesh.

On Saturday, the Kurdish-led forces took two villages near the town of al-Shaddadi in the southern countryside.

Backed by the US and French artillery, the SDF launched major offensive on last ISIS pockets near the Iraqi border. Since Sunday, clashes have been underway between near the towns of al-Dshaisha and Tel Shayer.

Daesh has resorted to guerrilla tactics since it abandoned its goal of holding territory and creating a self-sufficient caliphate that straddles Iraq and Syria.
